In an older post that you can see here I decided I needed a wireless remote system for my EPL3 system.
I ordered the “Pixel Oppilas RW-221” direct from China and it arrived in exactly 2 weeks which is amazingly quick!
I unpackaged it over the weekend and had a very quick test indoors at my desk. Everything worked very well and other than that the package was supposed it include AAAs and didn’t I am very surprised with the over all quality. Even the packaging was nice.
One thing I didn’t mention in the last post is that part of the reason for wanting a wireless remote is that I am intending to do some PAP or Pole Aerial Photography and wireless remotes seem to be the easiest and cheapest way to trigger the camera when its several meters in the air.
This week I made a pole and head with about a 2 meter length. This is not long enough but I want to test the rest of the system before I spend more money on a much longer extendable pole. I actually went pole shopping in the weekend and was blown away by the price of decent length pole! A decent pole of about 3 meters or more costs over $60!
The head I have made will work with any of the commercially available extendable poles (basically painters poles) so im now on the lookout for a decent second had one.
I mounted everything up on my newly finished pole and went out to take some test shots today. I held the pole and rested the pole on my chest so I guess the camera was about 3 meters of the ground. With the pole straight up I really couldnt see anything on the live view screen of the ELP3 (even with it tilted back as far as it would go) but if I lent the pole forward a few degrees I could make out basic shapes to compose the shots. The Pixel Oppilas RW-221 worked flawlessly and Im now thinking I need another one at least for my G12 (the 180 degrees screen articulation might make it a better choice for PAP) and maybe even a 3rd for my newly acquired Canon DSLR kit, hey they are cheap enough so why not? lol.
